Pumpfields planning application for 381 residential units
  • Client: Jamworks and Vinco
  • Location: Liverpool
  • Sector: Residential

project overview

Zerum were instructed as planning consultants to transform an industrial site on the outskirts of Liverpool city centre, in an area known as ‘Pumpfields’. Zerum sought planning permission for 381 residential apartments and studios created within three blocks of 7, 9 and 14 storeys.

This scheme includes a residents-only gym and communal areas. The proposals are also part of a wider landscaping scheme that creates a vital high-quality green space with far-reaching benefits. The landscaping details have been formed as part of a holistic design that connects the scheme with the adjacent proposals on Aldersey Street.

The scheme faced planning challenges that included building on brownfield land, justifying the loss of unviable employment land and helping shape an unapologetically innovative design. This included liaison with numerous specialists and consultants, and extended discussions with Liverpool City Council.

Since securing consent in May 2016, a further planning application has been submitted and granted which sought to increase the height of the scheme and the mix of units.  This was approved in April 2017.
